James Beattie By James Beattie 23 Min Read

Earning £1000 per week may seem like a tough task but if you work hard and know the right ways to make money, it’s more than achievable. This comes out to around £50,000 per year. Reaching £50k per year in the UK puts you in the top 15% of earners.

In this article, we’re going to give you a wide range of ways you can reach the goal of making £1000 per week. Whether you’re looking for a side hustle, an online job, or ways you can make more money in your existing career, we have you covered.

Some methods can be started completely from scratch with zero knowledge and others will require some capital or expertise.

I’m also going to avoid anything I find to be a waste of time. I have personally tested 10 or more online side hustles to see which ones actually work. You won’t find me recommending you to answer online surveys so you can make 20p per hour.

Over the past 7 years, I have worked full-time online. I know what’s worth your time and what’s a load of rubbish.

These methods are all realistic ways you can generate a £1000 income per week. That doesn’t mean they’re easy or don’t require you to work hard, they do. However, they can make you real money in a reasonable time frame.

Best Ways To Make £1000 Per Week In The UK

I’m going to try and order these jobs and side hustles in order of the most lucrative ways for most people to get started. However, your own personal situation likely makes certain business models better suited to your skill set.

Many of the ways below can supplement your existing income from your job to help you reach the £1000 per week mark.

Make More Money From Your Existing Job

A lot of people come to these articles looking for side hustles and exciting new ways to make money, when they already have a simple method right in front of them.

If you’re currently working a job that pays hourly and has more hours available, work them. This is one of the fastest ways to start making more. Of course, it may not be the best long-term solution, but can be great in the short term to boost your income.

A lot of people want some new flashy online business model but sometimes, more of what you’re doing can be the best option, especially if you only need an increase in income for a short period of time.

Freelancing

If you currently work in any sort of office job, you likely have some sort of skillset that can be sold to other companies. For example, you may be a software engineer who knows how to code. On marketplaces such as Upwork, you can land small software jobs and get paid an hourly rate for your work.

For example, I recently hired someone on Upwork to create a lot of the FIRE Calculators on this website.

Over the course of two days, I paid this developer $180 for just a few hours of work.

Upwork Job Payments - Ways To Make Money Online

Personally, I think this is the fastest and easiest way to break into making money online. You may have to pick up a few smaller, cheaper jobs initially but as you build credibility on your profile and with clients, getting larger jobs becomes much easier.

It also doesn’t have to be coding jobs. Here are a few other freelance jobs you can pick up:

  • Writing
  • Admin
  • Bookkeeping
  • Video Editing
  • Proofreading
  • Graphic Design
  • etc

If you already have a skillset, jump onto Upwork, Peopleperhour or Fiverr and see if anyone is buying services related to the skills you have. If they are, create a profile and get started.

Amazon Influencer Program

This is one of the most interesting online business models I have come across in the past 7 years. It’s actually what I would recommend to anyone jumping into the online space.

It meets a few different criteria that make it great for beginners:

  • Low risk – No upfront capital required)
  • Low Effort – I spent 8 hours on it and made £350 per month)
  • Scalable – If you want you can put more effort into growing your earnings.

Don’t let the name fool you. You don’t need to be a real influencer to join the program. You just need a social media account.

Essentially, you create reviews for products you already own that are available on Amazon. You upload them to Amazon and the reviews appear on the product page. If someone watches your video before they purchase, you get a commission.

Amazon Influencer Videos on Product Listing

You can shoot these videos with your iPhone and don’t even have to show your face. If you’re someone who buys a lot of products on Amazon, this is a great side hustle to start.

We have created a free complete guide to the Amazon Influencer Program.

Blogging

Now you may think blogging is something that people did to write about what they ate every day back in 2011. However, it’s still a very viable business model.

Personally, I would call it, building a media business rather than a blog, but more people understand what a blog is. The website you’re on right now is a blog and if you’re reading this, I’m probably making money through advertisements on the page.

If you click on one of the links on this page or on one of my reviews, I might get a commission from that company.

Blogging has changed, but it’s still a viable way to make money. Before starting this website I had a site called Get On Stream. On there, I created tutorials and guides for Twitch and YouTube streamers. At the time I was passionate about streaming and wanted to start a business around it.

I kicked it off in early 2021 and sold the blog for 6 figures in January of 2023. Not bad for writing about something I loved. Before I sold it the blog was making over £4000 per month from ads alone as well as more from affiliate deal.

Blogging income

You can start a blog about anything you’re interested in and build content around it. You can attract visitors to your blog through SEO and Social media and monetise them through ads and affiliate marketing.

There are plenty of free tutorials out there on YouTube showing you how to set up your first website. It’s not as hard as you think.

Etsy

Etsy is another business I have dabbled in and have tested myself. I set up a store in 2020 selling personalised nurse mugs just to see how everything worked. I made over $1000 in the first month.

Etsy Product Example

Lots of other people I know make a lot more than £1000 per week on Etsy. You can sell lots of different items such as handmade goods, digital products, print-on-demand, jewelry and much more.

The model I really love on Etsy is the Digital Product side of it. You can create a product once and then sell it 100s of times for a 100% margin. It’s hard to beat that.

As Etsy already has millions of customers, it’s much easier to make your first sales than it is with something like a Shopify store. People are already searching actively on Etsy for the products you sell. You can tap into their existing customer base.

Once you upload your first products on the platform, I would recommend running some Etsy Ads to boost you to the top of the Etsy search engine. This allows you to get your products seen on Day 1 (Well Day 15 as you have to wait 15 days to run ads).

It’s also cheap to start selling on the platform as they don’t take fees until you start selling products.

If you are looking to start a business that can start as a side hustle and grow into something much bigger, I really like Etsy.

Youtube Channel

Youtube is a great way to start making some extra side income. If you didn’t know already, Youtube pay creators for ads shown on their videos. Youtube pays creators 55% of the revenue earned from ads on their videos.

It will take most people 1-2 years of videos before they really start to blow up on Youtube, if you start from scratch. However, if you find the process fun and enjoyable it can be a great way to potentially make some extra money. You can earn money through ads but also build your own products and sell them as well as push affiliate products to your audience.

I’ve had my channel for over 6 years now but in that time it has made over $65k in ad revenue as well as a lot more money from my own product sales and affiliates.

Youtube Ad Revenue

Video Editor

The digital age is witnessing an unprecedented surge in online content. Businesses, now more than ever, value high-quality content, putting video editors at the forefront of this digital revolution.

Youtube, a platform brimming with educational resources, offers aspiring video editors a comprehensive learning journey at no cost. While mastering the craft may span a few months, the financial rewards for skilled editors are significant. Partnering with a rising Youtuber can not only amplify your portfolio but can pave the way for a thriving editing career.

Selling Courses

Selling digital courses is one of the best online business models right now. You have no cost of goods and can sell the same product to multiple people.

This is different from agency services, where you have to fulfill the work each time. If you can teach people how to do the work themselves you can sell to a lot more people with a lot less work.

You can really sell courses on anything. It could be fitness, business, excel, or woodworking. If you can teach it in video or written form there’s an audience out there who will buy it. To do really well selling courses you will need to first build an audience by putting out valuable content in your niche for free.

This will allow people to get to know you and then eventually buy your products. You can also sell on course platforms such as Udemy or Skillshare. These platforms have an existing audience ready to buy your products.

I sold a Facebook Ads training course back in 2017 – 2019 and was able to make some good money through it. Some of my friends have made millions selling fitness and other business-related courses online.

Online Tutoring

If you have skills in a specific subject or language, online tutoring is a great option to make some extra money online.

Since the pandemic online tutoring has become more normalised. Students are comfortable taking classes over video rather than in person, opening you up to a large market.

Obviously, this is more lucrative at peak times of the year when students in the UK have exams coming up.

Online Tutoring

Sites like MyTutor, Tutorful or Tutorhouse are a great place to start.

Affiliate Marketing

Another great way to make money online is through affiliate marketing. This is when you recommend someone else’s product and make a commission. It’s easier than starting your own brand from scratch, as you don’t have to create your own products or manage support.

Over my years online, I have promoted many companies’ products and made well over $100,000 doing it. The reason I could do this is because I have an audience. I built up my Youtube channel and email list then recommended the products I was using to my followers.

A single software product I have been promoting for more than 3 years now has paid me almost $75,000.

If you can start to build an audience that likes and trusts you, making recommendations to them comes naturally. If you integrate high-quality products that are actually useful into your content, this can be a really good way to make money.

Another example is this website. We write reviews on certain financial products. If you find our review useful and use one of our links to sign up, we get a commission.

Investing

I’m a big fan of investing for the long term. If you need £1000 per week today, this is not for you. However, if you want to build up an investment portfolio that will eventually pay you £1000 per week or £4000 per month you can.

By following FIRE principles you need to invest 25 x Your Desired yearly income from your investments.

If we wanted a £1000 per week we would need £1000 x 52 = £52,000 per year. This means we need a portfolio of £52,000 x 25 = £1.3M.

Initially, this seems insane. However, over time you can build a portfolio by investing small amounts of money each month and benefiting from compounding interest. You can check out our beginner guide to investing to learn more.

By investing just £600 per month for 35 years at a 10% interest rate, you would reach a portfolio value of £1.3 Million.

If you started investing at 25 years old, you could retire at 60 and enjoy the passive income your portfolio kicks off each month.

Matched Betting

Matched betting is a method used by individuals to profit from the free bets and incentives offered by bookmakers. It involves placing two bets: the first one (called the “back bet”) is made at a regular bookmaker for a particular outcome to happen, and the second one (called the “lay bet”) is made on a betting exchange like Betfair against that outcome happening.

This ensures that all possible outcomes of an event are covered. By applying this strategy to promotions and free bet offers, it’s possible to unlock value and generate a profit regardless of the actual outcome of the event, as the two bets will cancel each other out.

You can make some pretty good money utilising this strategy but it will eventually tap out as you use up all the bonuses available on the market.

Pursue Another Employment

Securing an additional job is undeniably one of the most straightforward methods to working your way to making £1000 daily. If you need extra money for a short period of time, this is a great way to get it.

Although it might seem taxing, direct the entire income from this job towards achieving your financial goals, be it purchasing a vehicle, saving for a house down payment, or funding a wedding. It’s a temporary trade-off of time for a financially stable future. Steer clear of debts for such milestones.

Food Delivery Jobs

The gig economy is growing massively in the UK. There are plenty of food delivery jobs out there for companies such as Deliveroo, Just Eat and more. These companies will pay you on a per-delivery basis.

While the pay isn’t massive for these jobs you can make a lot by working long hours. Doing this at night and on weekends and stacking the income on top of your existing job income can be a great way to make some extra cash.

Uber Driving

Another lucrative venture is Uber. It parallels food delivery in terms of flexibility, and prime hours during evenings and weekends likely don’t clash with a regular 9-5 job.

On average, Uber drivers earn around £13.45 hourly. Maximizing peak hours with surge pricing can significantly boost earnings. Ensure you own a vehicle before embarking.

Consider Dog Walking

Earning via dog walking is gaining popularity. In busy cities, dog walkers might pocket around £11 each hour, surpassing typical earnings. The structure varies: individual walks or group strolls based on both client wishes and local guidelines.

Its key perk? Flexibility. Decide your working hours, making it an excellent option after your primary job or during weekends, especially during early mornings and late afternoons.

Delve into Power Washing

The demand for power washing, especially by homeowners aiming to refresh their property’s facade, is on the rise. In urban settings, specialists in this field can demand approximately £25 per hour—a notable increase from usual rates. Although, you may need to purchase some equipment to get started with this gig.

Jobs That Make £1000 Per Week

You may have no interest in starting any of these online businesses or side hustles I have mentioned above. Maybe you’re looking for a career path you can go down to earn £1000 per week instead.

Below I have listed some careers, where you can eventually reach this level. It won’t be right away and will likely take a lot of work to get there but it’s more than doable.

Software Engineer: These professionals design, develop, and maintain software applications. Their expertise ranges from web development to mobile app creation.

Project Manager: They oversee projects from inception to completion, ensuring they’re completed on time and within budget. They work in various sectors from IT to construction.

Marketing Manager: Responsible for planning and overseeing marketing campaigns. They ensure a company’s products or services are well-presented to the target audience.

Sales Manager: These individuals lead sales teams, develop strategies to increase sales, and often work on commission, which can significantly boost their earnings.

Financial Analyst: They review financial data, provide recommendations based on their analyses, and help businesses make informed financial decisions.

Registered Nurse: Healthcare professionals who provide patient care, administer medications, and work closely with doctors and other medical staff.

Human Resources Manager: They manage the recruitment, training, and welfare of a company’s employees. They also handle employee relations and ensure compliance with labor laws.

Final Thoughts

Hopefully, one of the ideas here has sparked some ways for you to make £1000 per week. Remember, you don’t need to instantly start making that much. You can start small with one of these businesses, allowing you to supplement your existing income from your job.

Eventually, you will reach the £1000 per week mark, meeting your goal and hopefully living a much more financially free life.
